Reign Corner
I’m sorry, but this show is far too good NOT to talk about, so I’m doing a “Reign Corner”, looking at the episodes in detail….
Season 1 Episode 2
There is some confusion over the fate of Colin. As far as we know, he got the chop at the end of episode 1 - and that is pretty final - but now he reappears and is being racked in someone’s dungeon…?
However, the plot thickens when it emerges in the biggest mix-up since Blackadder and Lord Farrow that actually they executed the wrong guy by accident and Colin is in fact still alive. Well, this is awkward.
Chez Reign in the meantime gets distracted by the sudden arrival of the English and they haven’t come to play Football. They are greeted by a mysterious, little girl that doesn’t smile much. The court celebrates with food, drink and the M&S Collection. One of the Four Marys (who are actually called Lola, Ashlee, Greer and Kenna) has even discovered Pop socks. It’s almost like a Christmas Advert for Iceland and you’re expecting Peter Andre and Kerry Katona to appear any minute.
Despite all of the confusion surrounding Colin and why the English are there in the first place, we do discover two things at least. The King is played by Francis Bryan in The Tudors – he looks different without the eye-patch – and that the woman with the bag over her head is called Clarissa. Mary finds her trying on one of her dresses in her private chambers. On being rumbled, Clarissa starts screaming and yelling and rolling around the floor – she’s probably horrified that the dress is Regency style - before vanishing into thin air. Mary goes to find her and then begins to lose her marbles – literally. Clarissa is then found – without her dress – in someone’s bed.
Then, in yet another shocking twist, Colin is found hanging upside down from a tree. This time, he is definitely dead. As suspicions grow over the intentions of Catherine de Maleficent, she pulls back her duvet only to find a giant “X” on her bed sheets. Something tells me that it’s not the Red Cross Bed Sale. She becomes hysterical! Damn right too - how on earth is she going to get that stain out of the wash?!
In the midst of all this mayhem, the Dauphin reassures Mary. He promises friendship and that things will get better (in Season 1).
